SUCCESSFUL F.C.P. SHOWCASE
A huge thank you to all of the F.C. teams that played in the Winter Showcase! It was a weekend full of great competition for college coaches to watch.
This years showcase was bigger than ever with 167 teams in attendance! The showcase has been a great tool for the players to be seen by college coaches. F.C Portland wants to provide an opportunity for ALL players that are interesting in playing soccer at the next level. It was remarkable to see over 150 coaches from over 100 schools at the showcase!
Our tournament director Facundo Dipascuale said, “Our office staff, coaches, and volunteers did a wonderful job making sure everything ran smoothly so that we were able to provide a good atmosphere for players to compete in front of college coaches. It is great that our club is able to host one of the most prestigious showcases in the Northwest. ”

CLIVES CORNER
...with Michael Jamieson (U12 Boys Coach)
The Ever-Classy Chip Ball
1. Start with a dead ball
2. Approach the ball at a slight angle
3. Run up as you normally would (don’t stiffen up like a tin man!) ensure your plant foot is level/slightly behind the ball
4. Swing your leg back (how far depends on how far and high you want to kick it)
5. Hit underneath the ball, sort of ‘stub’ your foot into the ball, (almost like a wedge shot in golf) Hit the ball with the top of your toes, getting underneath the ball; your follow through should be low and not high as this would result in a scoop instead of a chip
For fun after practicing with both feet, get an empty trashcan, start 10 yards away and try to chip the ball into the trashcan. Move the can back 10 yards every time you make it!
